May Day Green/Pontefract Road/New Street: 1960s

Image

Looking across the junction of Pontefract Road and May Day Green from the bottom of New Street, the Duke of York on the left corner. Just before the Benefit footwear shop Doland & Aitchson's opticians can be seen, here from 1956. The Benefit footwear shop was a part of the Corporation Building with its interesting arched windows, triple-lights to the top storey. The Beesons fashionware shop is also in view.
