Shambles Street : (South side) : Paragon Stores

Image

Numerous former residences occupied by town worthies were converted over many years to commercial and business usages along the street. Paragon Stores (55) serves as a good example, set within a fine 3-bay, 3-storey building with a fine facade. Previous residents/occupiers are shown on page 55 of Volume 3 of Tasker's 'Barnsley Streets' book. The choice of the word 'paragon' by the clothing company was presumably to reflect their 'perfect, high quality' goods. This image dates from about 1968.
