Townend Park

Image

Townend Park was the subject of several postcard images in the early 1900s, this example by the Barnsley photo Company. The entrance into Shambles Street can be seen towards the right of the image. Apart from the quiet attraction of the small park, Townend was also a popular place for 'gatherings' of people, its crossroad location contributing to its status.
