Shambles Street : (North side) : Old Laundry & Townend

Image

The street drops sharply down to Townend and the old route in and out of Barnsley (Westway or Westgate) then continued, rising up the Racecommon towards Kingstone. The tall building was used as a laundry from about 1904, under various ownerships and later, from 1947 as a dry cleaners (Don Valley); and then, to 1973, was part of Green's Radio shop.
