Shambles Street : (South side) : Number 42 : Wragg & Stott
Home furnishers Wragg & Stott occupied the 3-bay and 3-storey building from 1946 through to the early 1960s when Paragon Stores started trading here. The property was clearly one of high status as a former private dwelling convenient for the market and town. Just before Wragg & Stotts was Eric Banks's sweet and tobacco shop and at the other side, nearest to Townend was Briton's toy shop. As a private house the property has childhood associations with one of Barnsley's most famous sons, the great railway engineer Joseph Locke
