Shambles Street : (South side) : Three Travellers Inn
The Three Travellers Inn with its mock Tudor gabled frontage was a distinctive part of the street in the 1960s. Landlords then were Dan Dixon (1959-62) and James Lunn (1962-73). The pub is well-named, referring to the visitors that were attracted to the town especially on market and fair days when accomodation may have been required as well as refreshment. In later years 'trendy' names were used for this old Victorian pub eg Draycotts, Isaac & Co rather than keeping with tradition. A narrow pedestrian only lane known as Dog Lane separated the Three Travellers frontage to lower properties.
