Shambles Street : (South side) : Lord Nelson Hotel (1)

Image

The Lord Nelson Hotel was a very substantial 9-bay and 3-storey building occupying land between Harrals, the Graham's Orchard entrance to number 18. Dating from 1830, it was previously the Wellington Hotel and stood on the site of one of Barnsley's oldest hostelries, The Old Horns Inn. Several shops occupied the lower right side of the hotel (16-18), most notably Day's Radio (1899-1966). This image dates from 1960.
