Shambles Street : (South side) : Harals Stores (2)

Image

The front of Harrals Stores on a quiet day in 1960. As The White House it remained one of Barnsley's most distinctive commercial buildings for several decades. Five bays, and two main storeys, Harrals was one of the most popular places to purchase furniture and fittings in the days when there were more family-owned businesses than chain stores. Notice the white columns at the right side of the building, allowing easy access into Graham's Orchard, by the side of the Lord Nelson Hotel.
