Shambles Street : (North side) : The Stores Inn (1)

Image

The curiously-named Stores Inn (no. 45) was created from part of a private house owned by William Peckett but the appearance of its windows, roof line and entrance gave it a school-like appearance. George Cantril appears to have been the last landlord, from 1958 to the early 1960s. The pub name may well relate to a previous building usage when the building served as a depot for wine, spirits and beer. So the pub conversion was not too surprising.
