Cheapside: Beeson's

Image

Shop fronts are a wonderful feature of Edawrd Tasker's photographic Trust archive. This is No.27 Cheapside (by the Duke of York's frontage). The drapery window is packed full of clothing and accessories. Look at the lady in her long coat and contrast with the fashionable youn girl's outfit. The gas lamps are also notable features, illumating the shop front and pavement. Charles Beeson was in business here from the mid 1870s right through to the the mid 1930s, a good stint, so everyone would know his shop.
