Cheapside (Wray's)

Image

A lovely early photograph (c.1890) showing Wray's pork butcher's shop, some of his joints of meat hanging on hooks outside. C.Wray functioned here from 1873 to the First World War. He was also a 'bacon factor'/dealer/wholesaler. Next door was a glass and china shop, now closed and taken over on a temporary basis by Wray. This row of buildings appears to be quite early c.18th century based on the architectural style: note the sash upper storey windows, stonework and gently sloping stone-flagged roof.
