Doncaster Road (N.side): Alhambra (View 2), 2-4 and the Plough Inn (view 1).

Image

Looking towards the Alhambra in c.1964. The Plough Inn (No 6 Doncaster Rd) is partly in view on the extreme right of the image. It was demolished a few years later, in 1972. Stone-fronted, it had been in use as a public house from at least the early 1820s. The last landlord was Shaun Doyle. A little higher stood gabled premises (2-4) once occupied by Robinson & Son timber merchants (1902-12) and functioned earlier as the Alexandre Concert Hall. See vol 4 of 'Barnsley Streets', pp.10-11
