Church Street: (view 7): East Side: Halley Bros and Shoesmith

Image

Whaley Brothers house furnishers (16) functioned from 1894 to 1929 and next door was Edward Shoesmith's grocer's shop, here from 1915, selling teas and coffees. Both had to be relocated and the buildings demolished to make way for the buidling of the new town hall plus associated redevelopment in the early 1930s.
